Road Trip To Casper.

Tia and I headed to Casper this afternoon for a CE class tomorrow. It snowed a few flakes on us, but there was snow in the ground in places, which was kind of cool.

We had a great dinner at a place I had never been before, Sanford's.

There was so much on the menu that I wish we had one closer so I could try more. But not the rocky Mountain oysters. I've never seen them in a menu before, and I've no interest in ever trying.
The menu was also great fun to read. I took photos of my favorite bits. I had steak, potatoes and beans.

We went to Kohl's after dinner, but they didn't have anything that called my name. What a shame...

I did buy a couple of cute headbands at a sale at the hotel.

Antelope.

I love that I can see herds of antelope on any given day on my way to or from work.

The Loss Of Geocaches.

There are some geocaches that are going to have to be relocated soon. I sure am glad that I got them all already. I have a shortage of geocaches here in town as it is. There are about 5-8 over here, if I remember correctly from a bitterly cold and windy day that I spent getting them all.

Before Times Three...

I finally got around to watching Before Midnight last night, and it is still haunting me tonight.

I had been wanting to watch it for months, since I first saw a review in a magazine. I loved the first two movies, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, and while I cannot recommend them to everyone... lots of talking and no action, they are amazing, unusual and beautiful movies.

Last night took me on an emotional roller coaster that I was not prepared for. It is not possible to explain exactly what made it that way, other than the superb writing that sometimes made me laugh at the absurdity of a situation, and made me cry at the similarities to some situations I've been in myself. Certain phrases were used, that while perhaps not identical to conversations I've been a part of, were scarily similar, and an eerie re-hash of a time I'm glad I've moved past. I am glad that I had not read about the movie prior to watching it, as I think it would have taken some of the emotional turmoil out of it, but what a heart-wrenching couple of hours it was.

I still recommend these movies to anyone that likes to listen, and appreciates human dialog over action and comedy. I don't think I've ever had a movie (or series of movies) have this much impact on me. Last night it was sad, but today I look back with fondness at what these characters have become, and how they've become a part of my history and my life.

Briony Is Published.

An article that Briony wrote for her Journalism class was published in today's Laramie Boomerang. You should be able to read it by clicking on the photo to make it bigger.

Pay Me? For My Plasma? Okay!

I'd heard several radio adverts for Biolife, so I thought I'd check it out. I don't know if I'll do it long term, but the first month, with bonuses, you can make over $200. How can I say no to that? I've given blood before, so I thought this couldn't be worse, and actually I felt better after than I did after giving blood, since they give you back your red blood cells. We'll see how I feel after this week when I give for the second time...

First Frost.

We had our first frost today. Of course I did not manage to get a photo of all the lovely white tipped grass at the two parks I drive by on the way to work. This is the view after I tried to use the windshield wipers to clear it off the glass.

Horizons.

We sure do have nice horizons here. I never get tired of looking at this sky. This was on the way to work this morning.

42. A Surprisingly Good Movie.

Tonight was Family Dinner Night, and I let Cale chose the movie. He chose 42, about Jackie Robinson. I am not a huge baseball fan... okay, I think it's boring and I'm not a fan at all. But this movie was really good, and I think that we all enjoyed it.

In a surprising turn, however, was the fact that Cale did not like the bacon that was served with dinner (apparently brown sugar cured bacon is the ONLY kind of bacon he does not like), but Briony, who hates bacon, loved it. They both liked the chicken stuffed with Boursin cheese (and topped with bacon, a modification of a recipe we had in England with parma ham). I think that it will definitely be a recipe that we have again, as it was easy and pretty fool proof.

Chicken stuffed with boursin cheese and topped with bacon, cheesy brocoli pasta and corn. Yum.
Yes, he is insane. Every week he comes and asks for the Snuggie. Tonight he put his feet through the arm holes...

Indian In Wyoming!

I wasn't sure that tonight's dinner out was going to be good, but it was.

I got a chicken korma, and Briony got Tandori chicken. Mine was a bit spicier than I was used to, but my primary experience was from a can of generic korma from Sainsbury's.

More Pressies!

From my dear friends, Ashlee and Curtis, I got these beautiful earrings and a Travel Bug that was trying to get from Richmond, Virginia to California. I will find him a nice place to stay until someone going further West can pick him up. Thanks guys!

My Gym.

I love my gym. There is usually nobody here. Because it's open 20 hours a day for members, I guess there is plenty of time for us all to come at different times. There were two cars in the lot when I there. None now but mine. I don't like a lot of bustle, or waiting to use machines and I never have to here.

Go Pokes! Or Something Like That...

This morning we were up early, because Briony had a babysitting job. She watched little Cambria while I got ready for the day.
While Briony got ready, I ran some errands and picked up Cale, so we could go to the Buddy Walk. I had raised money (thank you Christa) for the Wyoming Downs Syndrome Association. We walked to the walk from the apartment, then we did the walk, and had a lunch provided by them.

From there, we walked to the University of Wyoming's first home football game against Idaho (sorry Jenny!). None of us are particular football fans, but the tickets came with the walk registration, and I figured we should at least experience it once. I only went to one Virginia Tech game while I was there (beer spilled all over me, and dogging flying pizza boxes - not my idea of a good time), but at least I can say I went to one.
We got free tshirts!

It was sunny and hot. Until it was raining and cold.

The band was good

When we checked the mail, I got this adorable card from Caitlin. It made the perfect ending to a perfect day!

Oh yeah, the Hokies won and UVA lost... It really was the perfect day!

The Sky.

The skies in Wyoming are amazing, they seem to go on forever. In one sky, you might be able to see two different storms, while there is sun in one area and clouds in another. This was the sky tonight, all dark except for this one small area on the horizon.

Lightening.

We had a great view of the lightening storm from the front desk at work tonight, and Tia was able to catch some of  it with her phone. Beautiful.

More Birthday

Today I got two more Birthday goodies.

Sarah and Tia got me a gift certificate to get my nails done. I'm so excited!

Jenny sent me this cool book, Q&A a day, 365 Questions, 5 Years, 1,825 Answers. Every day for five years you answer the questions, and you can see how much you've changed, or how far you've come, over the years. I can't wait to start filling it in.

Birthday Weekend!

Friday Briony and I left Laramie at mid-day, on our way to Colorado to see Keith Urban at Red Rocks. It was to be my 11th Keith show, Briony's first, and the first time we'd been to a concert at Red Rocks. Even when I thought I would live on the East Coast my whole life, I always wanted to see Keith at Red Rocks. If I'd had a Bucket List, that would have been on it.

Our GPS was a little confused, so it took longer to get where we were going than it should have, but it all worked out. We were stopped at a stop light and Briony noticed this little restaurant next to us, The Baker Street Pub and Grill, so we decided to have a late lunch/early dinner there.

From there we headed to our campground to set up. We had borrowed a tent, and we only had time to get it set up before we had to head to the venue. We got there and found our seats, and enjoyed the view until the concert started. Little Big Town was alright, better live than in their albums, but I'd seen them open for Keith two or three times already, so I wasn't terribly interested. As the sun set set over Denver, the view was pretty amazing. Then Keith came on, and all was right in the world! He played an amazing show, and as always, I hoped that it would never end. It did of course, but we were still on the high that comes from seeing his electrifying show.

Back at the campground it was straight to bed, which was a blanket on a gravel site, but as tired as I was at that point, I slept pretty darn well, fairly confident that the tent top wasn't going to blow off in the mountain wind that had whipped up.

Saturday morning we were up early (there's no sleeping in on a gravel bed), and had a very filling pancake breakfast, and some nice chatting with the owners of the campground.  We left and headed for the next show, which was in Aspen. We went through some impressive ski resort areas, Breckenridge, Vail, and Aspen, and even though it was not ski season, you could just see the money that these towns are built around.

We got to the shuttle area for the concert, which was Day 2 of a three day festival known as Jas Aspen Snowmass. As we were on the bus, with just our chairs, it was apparent that we were not the pros at this sort of thing. People had coats and blankets and tarps and large bags of supplies. Not to be dissuaded, we continued on and got checked in at the site. We found a good spot and set up our chairs, which we had decorated with feather boas to make them more visible when we left and had to find them in the crowds upon returning.

Little Big Town was the first act, and I think that I slept through most of their show, it was so hot and sunny! Then Train came on, and I'd seen them before, but they were good, as expected. As they were setting up for Keith's show, the clouds came in. By the time he was done with the first song, it was raining. He said that they were telling him in his ear to come off stage, it would only rain for 10-15 minutes. He respond with a Hell No, and continued to play. Even as the rain turned to torrential, cold rain, he kept playing. The band sort of disappeared to the back of the stage, and Keith traded out for an acoustic guitar, and kept going. We were freezing, and a nice couple next to us with tarps and coats gave us their extra rain coats to wear, and even though we were already soaked to the under garments, it did block the wind and kept the majority of the rain off us. It rained for the entire show, which he did not cut short, even though many performers would have at that point. He ad-libed a lot, and had to stall since the set list was not something they could stick to. Once the heaviest rains stopped, the band members joined back in and they went electric again. Even though it would have been amazing to see him do the exact same show again (I've done it before, two nights in a row), he talked to us a lot more during this show, and took requests and played things he hadn't played the night before.

Briony said on the way out, that it was better than the night before, and even better than Rascal Flatts. That though she loved Gary LeVox, he was no Keith Urban. Coming from her, that's quite the compliment.

I loved that my 12th show was in the rain, just like my first Keith show, at Innsbrook in Richmond, pouring rain (though not quite so cold), May 2nd, 2004.

We checked into our hotel and again went straight to bed. It had been a long, but wonderful, two days.

Sunday morning we got up and after breakfast started on the journey home. After a little rest, I picked up Cale and brought him to the apartment. I was locked in my room while they baked and decorated. I had a lovely chat with Jenny while I was banished. I was blindfolded as we left the house for dinner at an Irish Pub. After dinner we came back home to cupcakes and presents. Cale had gotten me a little figurine of three bears in a canoe while we were on vacation, and visited Bear Country. The bears are the three of us. Briony gave me a stuffed panda bear that is the bear that Bearette used to steal from her room all the time. She said she liked to think it was from the both of them, and we cried a little bit.

After dinner we looked at photos from the concerts and watched some video I had taken. Cale had been at the Friday night show with Nid and Carissa, and completely by accident, I had gotten them on camera as I photographed the venue like I always do. I would never have noticed if he hadn't pointed them out. He had seen us there, so he knew where to look for himself from our vantage point.

It was an amazing Birthday weekend, all that I could have hoped for, and more!
